Experimental Broadcast Licenses are being granted for six month periods. Each station launched must have a specific purpose in furthering 5G Broadcast development.
5G Broadcast is in its budding stages. New technology in both software and hardware are being developed every week.
5G Broadcasting will be ready for first responder solutions and public consumption in 2025.
This is a list of 5G Experimental stations in the US and their proof of concept challenges.
WWOO-LD, Boston, MA
WWOO-LD BOSTON is the first 5G Broadcast station to launch in the US. On September 13th, 2023, WWOO successfully proved two challenges:
Delivering a streaming channel to a smartphone capabale of receiving a 5G Broadcast signal on TV channel 28 in Boston.
Delivering an emergency alert to a smartphone in 5G Broadcast protocol.
Both challneges were successfully proven with emergency alerts being deployed to smartphones in under ½ second.
WWOO has submitted a phase two experimental Proof of Concept application with the FCC.
WTXX-LD, Hartford, CT WYJH-LD, Danbury CT
On January 29th, 2024, WTXX-LD and WYJH-LD both filed an application with the FCC for an experimental 5G Broadcast license in accordance with the Prrof of Concepts as outlined by XGN and the LPTV Broadcasters Association.
